I felt obliged to revisit this song which I wrote many years ago
about the time I emigrated from Ireland. During the height of "The
Troubles", concerned that my infant daughter would be raised in a
society riven by sectarian hatred, oppression and escalating
violence, we fled our homeland.
Now the world is experiencing the largest human migration since
World War II. The violence I personally experienced gave me a few
grains of empathy and compassion for the vast desert of human
suffering currently being endured by millions of people seeking
refuge outside of their native lands.
